Overview
Rimfire Silhouette at USI is a fun event. The regulars are a more than helpful bunch and glad to assist new shooters. The “shoot what you brought” attitude adds to the informal and fun atmosphere. In a nutshell, 15 metal animal silhouette targets are knocked down with a scoped .22lr rifle. This process is repeated at 4 distances. Shooting is performed with any rest from the bench.

Equipment
In it’s most basic form, Rimfire Silhouette can be attended with nothing more than a scope equipped .22lr rifle. Looking down the shooting line at a typical match you will find semi auto (10/22) and bolt action (CZ) are both popular. Ammunition selection (22lr standard velocity only) permits everything except hyper velocity as it can damage the targets.

How To
Silhouette targets are placed at four distances, 75, 100, 150 & 200 yards. At each distance there will be 15 targets arranged in 3 groups of 5. You will shoot one shot (hit or miss) at each of the 15 targets at the distance you are currently assigned. By the end of the match you will have shot at all 4 distances. (15 targets X 4 distances = 60 shots)

Scope Adjustment
Before each match there is a practice session (bring extra ammo). Swinging targets are used to calibrate your scope at the 75, 100, 150 & 200 yard distances. You will need to write down these scope adjustments. Then during the match, you will recalibrate your scope for each recorded distance setting.

Summary
A fun game for all ages, simple equipment, come early (for adjustment), come often!
Hope to see you there.

Dave.
