Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays Activity Group

The newest form of shotgun entertainment is sporting clays. Sporting clays was developed to help hunters in the field with the various types of live birds and animals that they would likely see during the hunting season. For example, there are clay target rabbits that roll on the ground, small minis and midis that simulate doves, rising clay targets that represent pheasants flushing and many more different presentations of targets. Targets could be going away or incoming, crossing or quartering away. Sporting clays usually consists of 100 targets to be shot at at 10 to 15 stations in a golf course like environment. Squads of shooters walk or ride carts from station to station shooting pairs of targets at each station. It is the most fun you can have with a shotgun.

Diablo Sporting Clays travels to different courses throughout the summer season and at a couple of the shoots there is an opportunity to shoot at more than one course staying overnight. The cost to shoot is what the club charges ($30 to $40) and usually lunch is available. There are awards for HOA and random class awards.
