Delegates at the meeting were… Concord, Bay Point, Diablo… Both Walnut Creek and Brentwood clubs did not have delegates present.
If you are a member of one of these missing clubs you might as them about the project and lack of representation from their respected clubs isnt being given.
It was another good meeting of the USI Tenant Space committee where we got together and started to input what the committee would like to see in the conceptuals of the new clubhouse/indoor shooting range. In attendance was our building architect Ralph Strauss that took the committees ideas and will then turn them into something that we can present to the USI Board and have them look at.
Things that were talked about were
- Building Interior
- Shooting lane orientation for possible phased approach
- Storage spaces for each club
- A warming kitchen for club use
- Extra kitchen storage for club use for crab feeds and other fundraisers
- Refrigerators for all clubs
- Bathrooms on both levels
- Conference room spaces
- Pro Shop – Retail Products viewing area
- Possible deck overlook for club use on 2nd floor
- Multi-use room to handle indoor air gun / USA shooting trials
- The same multi use area for banquet / fund raising dinners with emphasis of developing outdoor social meeting areas in front of each
- Indoor Archery possibilities with Crossbow capabilities
- ADA considerations for both levels
- BBQ area, tables, benches, shade structures etc…
There was more talk about the three LET/Contractor/Member Only range/bays that are there also and talk about the needed depth of the bays and considerations for reactive targets in one of the bays.
There was more talk about some of the earth moving and berm construction ideas that could save overall space in the A-4 plot plan to allow for more parking and picking up some extra shooting lanes for more revenue to USI.
More talk about the split level design of the building and considerations for phased deployment of indoor shooting and ventilation requirements.
Talk about other area local gun range revenue and possible USI revenue per day / per weekend.
Thats pretty much all that was talked about in the meeting. Ralph said that the turn around for something more concrete would be quick but said he’d contact the Concord rep and our chairman Roy to let us know that that he had more questions.
It was nice to see everyone pitching in a offering ideas and suggestions as to what their clubs would want to see in a new building. It was also equally depressing to see that again other clubs not take the development of the tenant space more seriously. With the current “rent” we get from the landscape person there being 2500-4000 a month (rumor) USI should be developing that into shooting land… not a garbage dump for destroyed cars, broken down tractors and in general a truck park. We all know the political climate in California and the five clubs should embrace their mission statements closer in promoting shooting sports and not embracing a tenant that does nothing for shooting sports. The USI range should be viewed and used as a resource to the local population and equally important to outside contractors and LE organizations and various NRA trainers to use the range for their training purposes. Make the range a needed business in the community.
We all care greatly about the USI facility and I think that this is where some of concern comes from… but with so many people caring about this facility I know the clubs can come together and make USI into a shooting sports facility that compares to no other in the Bay Area.
